Rests happen when notes are not playing - they also come in various lengths.

The basic rests are: 

notes-rest-semi-breve.png 4 beats
notes-rest-minim.png 2 beats
notes-rest-crotchet.png 1 beat
notes-rest-quaver.png 1/2 beat
